When can your custom-home project realistically begin?

Build the schedule around readiness, approvals, procurement and decisions—not a promised date alone.

Separate planning from the construction period

Land review, architecture, engineering, scope development, selections, permitting and procurement can precede the site start. Ask the team to show these phases separately from construction. A construction duration without its starting assumptions is not a complete move-in plan.

Define what ready to start means

Confirm the documents, permissions, funding arrangements, scope decisions and site access the team needs before mobilization. Establish who supplies each item and its target date. Starting with major unresolved design decisions may shift uncertainty into construction rather than remove it.

Find the decisions that control other work

Identify long-lead items and selections that influence structure, openings, cabinetry, mechanical coordination or installation. Ask for required decision dates and approval responsibilities. Procurement durations and availability must be checked with the actual supplier rather than copied from a prior home.

Plan for dependencies and recovery

Discuss inspections, site conditions, weather exposure, trade sequencing and changes. A useful schedule explains dependencies, review dates and what happens when an assumption changes. No generic schedule guarantees a completion date for an unreviewed parcel and design.

Bring your timing priorities to discovery

Explain whether a school year, current-home sale, lease or other event matters to your move. Share the current status of land and plans. Carson and Hillary can discuss the next planning step and the information needed for a realistic project schedule.
